What to see in Lanzarote

Activities on foot from Finca La Corona.

Finca La Corona is in Lanzarote, at the centre of a privileged triangle: between the Volcano, the Risco (cliffs) and the Mirador del Río — one of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centres that have brought so much renown to Lanzarote thanks to the work of artist César Manrique. These three unmissable spots on the island can be reached on foot from our houses. A short stroll takes us to some prime examples of the Canary Islands’ raw beauty.

Risco (and the La Graciosa path)

Reaching the Risco, and specifically the start of the path that leads out to the coast (called Camino de losGracioseros because it was where residents from the island of La Graciosa used to arrive before the Órzola port was built), means reaching one of Lanzarote’s most beautiful viewpoints. People from all over the island come here simply to watch one of Lanzarote’s most spectacular sunsets. Pilgrims of the sun, people flock from different parts of the island. But we are already there, watching how the beautiful theatre of the universe unfolds for us every evening.

La Corona Volcano

Many paths cross, skirt, climb up and wind around La Corona Volcano and its area of influence. They all encourage an “oriental” way of discovering the space: it is said that La Corona should not be climbed in a straight line. That is not how we should discover the volcano. Here, the landscape calls for us to roam, wander without any directionother than exploring, turning towards the clouds or towards the south: getting a complete idea of the space. It’s not about getting to the summit: it’s about gradually winding around it to understand the whole volcano

Los Gracioseros Path.Beaches

Just 150 metres from the entrance of Finca La Corona is the beginning of the Los Gracioseros path, a historical path that leads from the cliff down to the El Río salt mines and the golden sands of Playa del Risco.

One of Lanzarote’s wildest and most unspoiled areas, it can only be accessed by this path. The coast looking out to La Graciosa island invites us to explore ancient stone shelters, magical coves and unbeatable views. Along the descent we come across viewpoints that look not only out to sea; the edge of Timanfaya can also be seen clearly from the top. It is a perfect place to spend a morning or day lost in the oblivion of the world.

Circular route of La Corona Volcano

The circular route around the edge of the crater of the La Corona volcano has some technical stretches, but the views it boasts, both of the inside of the crater and of the surrounding area, remain etched on the mind forever.

The walk should not take more than three hours. The route starts out towards the town of Ye from Finca La Corona and in just ten minutes we find the path up to the volcano, just behind the church in the town.

Access to the crater is very straightforward, and the continuation of the path along the crest, which we recommend doing in a clockwise direction, unfolds like a natural museum. A hearty breakfast and a stunning hike are morning activities that combine perfectly with an afternoon spent relaxing in the water and the sun, and some peaceful reading; watching time go by without noticing it on the island of Lanzarote.
